Pumpkin Patch Field Trip

Yesterday we walked to Ms. Stephanie's pumpkin patch to explore a real pumpkin patch. We saw tons of pumpkins, a barn, a tractor and we got to run around the pumpkin patch. We got to touch a real pumpkin vine and got to pick a few pumpkins. It was a lot of fun! Thank you Ms.Stephanie for letting us visit.

Apple Patterning

The students worked on making Apple Crowns by patterning different color apples. Some students worked on an AB pattern while others worked on an ABC pattern.

Coconut exploration

After reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, we decided to expolre a real coconut.  We described how it felt, smelled, looked and sounded.  Then we opened it up to see what was inside.  First, we drained the coconut milk out of the coconut.  Then we cracked it open.  We smelled the coconut milk and the cocount.  We touched it to see how it felt and some friends even tased the fresh coconut.  At snack, we ate coconut chocolate chip cookies and were able to dip the cookies in coconut milk.

Searching for letters

After reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault, we decided to search our sand for letters. In a group, each child had to find a letter and tell the group the name of the letter. He or she would show his or her friends the letter and we would all say the name of the letter. After the activity we took all our toys out of our sand table and hid letters in it.

Making Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Trees

After reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault we decided to make our own coconut trees. To do this we had to tear brown and greeen paper and glue it onto our tree.

Science Experiment

During our story, Mouse decides to preform a science experiment and makes purple lava.  As a class, we tried the same experiment.  We mixed vinegar with purple food coloring and sprinkled baking soda in it and magically we had purple lava expolding from our jar!  The kids had a great time predicting what would happen and loved preforming the experiment.  Everyone's eyes lit up as the purple lava exploded and they all kept saying "Again!"  The kids were so into it, we preformed our experiment 4 times!

Predictions

Today we worked on predicting what would happen in our book If You Take a Mouse to School by Laura Numeroff. First we talked about what a prediction was and what the word prediction meant. Then we looked at the cover of the book and began generating some metal pictures. After looking at the cover we predicted what the mouse would do at school and placed it on our mouse board. Ask your child what he or she predicted the mouse would do in school.

Sarah was lost!

Today was a very busy day. One of our monkeys, Sarah, got lost! We had to search the entire school looking for her. We visited the Motor Room, Miss Jen and Miss Sue (our speech therapists), Miss Carlene (our nurse), Miss Lynn (our principal), Miss Bonnie (our secretary), The Library, the Gym, Miss Nancy (our physical therapist) and the Playground. But we couldn't find Sarah. Finally we returned to our classroom to ask George, our other monkey, if he found her. In the end it turned out that Sarah was hiding under the Math Center table the whole time! Ask you child if he or she remembers why Sarah was hiding.

We took a few pictures from our trip around the school and I am planning on making it into a classroom book. As soon as I make the book I will post it for you to see.
